“‘I am a beauty seeker and a wordsmith.’’ –Kerry-Jane Lowery
Listening to, discovering, sharing as well as telling and writing stories fascinates me. There are so many facets to explore, be they spoken, written or image based.
The media we share and discover them through is fast evolving so thinking ahead of the game and outside the box is a necessity. I like to think my approach to life fleet footed partly because I’m a runner but also due to my professional path that has taken me down numerous alleyways, some leading to boulevards others to unforeseen places. All journeys and destinations well worth taking, only a few gladly forsaken.
I’m at one such turning point and am excited at the prospect of what is to come. I have an outline of it, but not a full view quite yet. Photography and words are welling forth, beauty a constant, and tales from fieldwork across many regions of the world reemerging. But above all, I’m hoping to be part of a team which would delight me.
As an anthropologist, communicator and photographer, my career has revolved around people, communities, and cultural differences & divides be they close to home or in a far flung corner of the planet. I have lived and worked in many conflict areas and value learning and sharing to help foster a more tolerant and informed view of ‘difference’ and ‘the other’. I am passionate about the worldviews we hold as individuals and communities, and finding common ground across cultures.
Research and fieldwork are among my strengths, as is the ability to explain complex ideas simply, in a consistent narrative style, be it particle physics or the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I have also written policy as well as contributed to policy making, with very positive results, especially in the Balkans. I am told my approach and writing are evocative and compelling, drawing in the reader and contributing to the debate.
I have had a number of photography exhibitions and my work features in private collections in various parts of the world. Among other things, I have written a book for CERN: Exploring the Mystery of Matter, published by Papadakis. I also managed a small independent publishing house, Urbane Publications specialising in fiction, business books and memoirs (the pandemic killed us off sadly), and was the editorial manager of a powersports e-magazine and the commissioning editor of a glossy Swiss magazine for high end hotels.
